Post subject:  Strategies for finding a new job?

I've been working as an English teacher for several years now, and I think I am starting to get tired of it. I would like to move into something with a few more opportunities for advancement. Has anyone here found any good strategies for finding new jobs? Networking events, cold-calling companies, or just keeping an eye peeled on the jobs available, what works best for you? Would be interested in hearing some responses from people who have made the jump from teaching to something else.

I haven't made the move myself, but of the people I know who have done it, networking has been the way they achieved it. Some have done so accidentally, by running into someone in a bar. Others have gone about it in a calculated way, attending events related to their target profession and making lots of contacts in that business.
